Resume, Please.
Hi! My name is Will, and this is my last year here at Ball State. We all have read the stories that talk about going into there last year of college or high school. And how the past three years went by so fast and that they remember setting up their bunk beds in their dorm room. Well, I am not going to go into that much detail about how times goes by fast because we all know that. However, I am going to talk about how the past three years hasn’t been a waste.
Starting here at Ball State, I understood that I did have some time to choose a major that I liked and that was for me. I took that time of the first year not deciding a major but a focus. I wanted to stay in the journalism department. But did not know what major within the department. Finally, after my first year I choose a major that fits my personality, public relations.
Going into the next year, I wanted to start taking the first step to shaping my portfolio and resume. I knew that I have had some quality experience, but did not know how to word my accomplishments on paper. So I used some of the resources available at the Career Center on campus. They scheduled me an appointment and had me come back within the week.
When meeting with my appointment, I felt relieved knowing that I was not the only one the same situation. At the resource room, I saw some other students working on the computers, and typing their resumes. Being able to go in easily, and talk to someone about a resume, was effortless. Also, I told my parents and they were happy to see that I was doing something professionally, and it bought me a couple days from their phone calls.
Now going into my last year here at Ball State, I am really glad that I went into the Career Center and made a resume. Mainly, because now when employers or future employers ask me for my resume, I already have one made, and ready to hand to them.
Will
